THE PROS AND CONS OF BEING A STUDENT AT METU

For me, this is not the first year at METU. However, like many freshmen I had some problems with the new life style last year. To be honest, the university life did not meet my expectations sufficiently. I was expecting to be completely free and not to have to study as much as I did in high school. In fact, we are supposed to study much more compared to last year. All the instructors give extra things to study in addition to homework. Being away from home and the family is another difficulty most freshmen experience. Fortunately, I also stayed in the dormitory in high school, so this issue did not concern me lot. the only difference is that there is no food supply here. We are responsible for cooking or ordering our meals, which is one of the most challenging problems. Even if we happen to decide to cook our meals, having to wash the dishes is a handicap for cooking ourselves. In high school we were served three meals per day and the buffet breakfast was awesome. Since I came here I have had breakfast only certain time. It would be better to call it branch or even dinner because there is no biological clock here. the time to go to bed or get up is not certain. There is no authority here and you should prepare your own time period. At the beginning of last year, I could not catch even the noon classes. Btw*, feeling shy to meet new people and missing old ones are another difficulty. Not everyone can make friends easily and I am one of them. What if my best friends would not be here? Besides its disadvantages, there are also some goo features. The campus life is one of them. Living away from noise, especially at METU, in the middle of nature, is marvelous. When I first came here, I realized it was a right choice to prefer METU. Not only the campus life but also academic success plays a key role why I wanted to be here. When you first entered the door (A1 or A4) you can feel the difference. I took this way and that has made all the difference :)
